Looked like things were back to normal-ish on fair Fandom island. Electroclash had supposed that meant she should drag her bum to her office to see if anyone was traumatized enough to seek counseling after whatever it had been that had left the island so sparsely populated.

Actually, half her reason for coming in was to see if someone could actually tell her what had been going on. Because fuck if she knew, her whole week had been tea and booze, like a sensible person's. Speaking of which, she put the electric kettle on before settling into the chair behind her desk.

Tea soothed traumatized people, right? Probably more than Electroclash would. But she was still here and available!

"I guess. Does everyone get those?" Maddie asked, coming in and being just a little hopeful that meant she didn't actually have people watching everything she did.

[electrocynic]

"I don't know, they have a system." They could have been watching her... but probably not. Electroclash gestured at a seat for her to take. "Unless of course you think there's a reason you might've gotten one."

Maddie took a seat and said evasively, "Well, I haven't done anything wrong."

Since she'd been here, anyway. Which was shocking, by the way.

Electroclash shrugged. "Well, then it's just random." She liked taking people's word for it. Less work for her than trying to verify it from files or something. "So... Anything in particular you'd like to talk about now that you're here? You're a teenager, you lot've always got something on your chest."

And Maddie officially loved this place.

"Um. I don't know," she said. "I mean, I got kidnapped and everything."

"You mean the thing this past week, or some incident?"

She was a superhero, and therefore had a slightly peculiar take on things, yes.

"Yeah," she said, tilting her head. "Do you have a lot of kidnappings here or something?"

Electroclash waved a hand dismissively. "Not so much here, but it happens a fair bit back home. Usually with some pretty fucking tragically inept supervillains behind it."

And now Maddie felt totally comfortable. "You too? I mean, they're not always inept, but like, I just went through this sort of thing back home. And wham, then last week happened. That's not even fair."

Hey, someone who actually got this, would you look at that? Electroclash leaned forward a bit. She held up a finger.

"Rule number one of Fandom –- no, actually of being a cape. That, too. Rule number one for both those things: it's never ever fucking fair. Usually it's annoying, and sometimes it's life threatening. Never fair, but you learn to live around it."

"I kind of left home so I wouldn't have to live around it," Maddie admitted. "But we didn't even get the bad guy this time. I don't even know who it was."

Electroclash leaned back again, and shrugged. "Happens. Got to learn to live around that, too."

"But it sucks," she said. "When you don't get them, it just means they can do it again."

"And if you do get them," Electroclash retorted, "does that mean there won't be others?"

"No, but it's still one less person hurting people," Maddie reasoned.

"Eh."

Electroclash was the best hero ever, obviously.

"There's always more where they came from. I wouldn't get too mathematical about it."
