MCA #5, All Day Thursday

To recap, the last week or so in Sarah’s life:

First, three days more or less entirely spent in bed with her ex-boyfriend. Yes, the one who’d fucked off to be a hero in space a few years back. Yes, the one she had not been over ever since. That one. Guy Gardner, ginger bloody menace and royal pain in her heart.

Then, two days and slowly working on making it three spent... mostly in bed, but also on the couch. Alone. Except for a few tubs of ice cream and some now-empty bottles of beer. She hadn’t even bothered to get hammered. She knew that wouldn't actually do anything but make her even more miserable.

As if that was somehow possible.

So anyway, now day three of her moping was dragging on. Maybe tomorrow she'd actually go outside. But she wasn’t counting on it. Not when there was takeout.

Sarah threw an incredulous his way. But she had no real reason to doubt her hearing or his words.

So she just huffed out "Bumsticks", and shook her head.

"You know, there's a couple of weeks there in late August and early September I feel we should just strike off the record," Atton muttered. "For good. No more of that every year. It's the karking dead three-week triangle of people setting fire to their own lives and I'm about done with it."

[electrocynic]

"With the way this one's gone?" Sarah replied, flicking ash off the end of her cigarette. "Won't fight you on that. Fucking depressing, 's what it is."

[suitably_heroic]

"Fucking depressing," Atton agreed.

He let out a sigh.

"I should probably crack open that bottle of juma," he said. "Put on some crappy television."

Sarah snorted. Hey, that was two dry signs of amusement in one day. maybe she'd eventually get better. "Well, there's an easy task," she said. "It's a weekday afternoon. It's all pure shit."

"Do you have a particular shit preference," Atton asked, as he took one last drag off his cigarette and then stubbed it out, "Or should I just hit a few buttons and hope it's not Real Housewives again?"

Ugh, Anakin.

"I tend to watch soaps." She liked yelling at them. (You had your hobbies, she had hers.) "But I'm not too particular."

Especially not when she was in her worn-out pajamas and everything had gone to shit, anyway. She put out her cigarette. Then glanced out over the view, briefly. Then spread her arms just a little, and gestured him towards her.

"Come on, then, space boy. Let's get this over with."

She was terrible at hugs. And feelings. Both had to be covered up in a drawl and feigned resignation.

"Why do I even talk to you?" Atton wondered. ...Which he said to everyone he liked and talked to on a regular basis. Because he was also terrible at feelings.

And as he said it, he was stepping forward to give her the hug - firm, and at least trying very hard not to be awkward.

Sarah had a more solid idea of where they stood right about now. She wasn't going to be making it awkward. She also wasn't going to linger, but she wasn't going to be awkward.

Well, more than she was inherently awkward with displays of... anything that wasn't anger or maybe glee at other people's misfortune.

It was pretty firm from her side as well, anyway. "Because I'm so bloody charming, me."
