Sarah hadn't checked her mail in a while. Just hadn't really felt like it. There was never anything good in there anyway. It took the deep, all-encompassing boredom of a wintery Sunday afternoon for her to finally – sighing, of course – shift the small mountain of mail onto her kitchen table and start shifting through it.

Junk mail, junk mail, junk mail, SPA notice on new rules, junk mail, bills, junk mail, junk mail junk junk mail junk mail ––

"Oh, bollocks."

Invitation to a reunion. Ugh. See? Nothing good.

Atton shook his head. "At least sit in your office sometime," he wheedled. "I'll buy lunch."

Sarah snorted, reaching for the sandwich. "Since when are you so invested in my job?"

"Since I've been teaching here for almost two years and I'm invested in the mental health of our students," Atton said. "You know, as long as I don't have to deal with it."

"So you actually just don't want it collapsing on you," Sarah decided, leaning back. "Makes more sense."

"And it's not like you have anything better to do," Atton said, grabbing his drink. "Keeps you occupied doing something other than bullying cigarette machines."

"I don't bully anything." Liar. "I just take what's rightfully bloody mine."

"The cigarettes aren't yours," Atton retorted. "Some of us actually buy them, you know."

"Some of us don't have to."

In part that was true, because she had an arrangement with the corner store at home.
