Sarah had had a lot of time to be thinking some things over, lately. Especially over the back end of last week, which had been complete and utter bollocks by the way, because trying to smoke on the balcony was not easy when you risked getting bitten by flying fucking sharks in the process of just trying to get your nicotine fix.

So, anyway.

She'd had a lot of time to think, and she was veering closer and closer to a a decision.

Except that was a lie, kind of, because she'd more or less already made up her mind. And that meant one thing: checking in with some people who weren't Jenny and therefore weren't going to just relentlessly gush at her for being so romantic or some other bullshit like that.

And so, armed with far too much beer, she knocked on the door across the hall from hers.

With her foot. Because, see above about all the beer. She had her hands full, so, kicking it was.

Sarah squinted at Atton.

"... Are you trying to say you'll miss me?"

It was possible she was going to try and take the piss if that was the case.

"He'll totally miss you," Sparkle chirped, and then took a swig of beer, because he was a little shit, okay? "Hell, so will I. I'm not even so emotionally constpiated that I'm going to try to pretend differently, either."

"Hey, your face is emotionally constipated," Atton said, thus proving the point, and then slammed back his beer. "Don't die in outer space or whatever, I mean, I don't care."

Sarah pointed a finger at Sparkle. With the hand that was holding the beer, so it was a little on the awkward and vague side. "I knew there was a reason you were my favourite."

So serious.

And as for Atton... "And you, you'll just miss throwing your boots at my door or something." Even.if that had been just the one time. "It's okay, we all know you don't have feelings."

"I'm sure he'll find some other place to throw boots, but it won't be the same," Sparkle said, grinning and taking another swig of beer. "So... going away party, here and now? Should I order pizzas?"

"I only threw boots at her door the one time, and it was justified," Atton said, because that had to be settled before they moved on. "But you're right, I don't have feelings! It's taken a while for anyone to notice."

He sat up again. "We could also do Thai or Indian food," he offered. "Isn't that the native cuisine of your country? Oh, no, wait, they stole it."

Snarking because he didn't want to admit to caring, away!

"Yes, one of the more heinous crimes of the colonialist empire," Sarah drawled. "Why not all of them? A food coma seems properly American, makes sense for a farewell."

[myownface]

"Plus, leftovers for days," Sparkle added, grinning. "I'm not going to complain about not having to cook for a little while."

Let's be real; he'd cook anyway.

"Yeah you would," Atton said.

Mid-lean over to go collect his phone off the table, yes. "Fine, I'll call every restaurant in the city. See if they pack Portalocity doggy bags."

[electrocynic]

"I'm not actually leaving 'til next week."

That seemed worth pointing out, even if she definitely wasn't objecting to getting all that farewell bullshit done in advance.

"So maybe no doggy bags. Don't want dodgy leftovers to be the first impression I give on Oa."

[myownface]

"They'd be extra soggy by then," Sparkle noted, wrinkling his nose a bit. "But hey, next week? That much more time for us to get all the drinking and being idiots we're gonna miss out on out of the way."

Or for her to pack, Sparkle?

"Then I'm calling for Thai," Atton decided, dialing the number. "We can eat everything on the island when you're actually leaving. What are we, teenagers?"

At that, Sarah gave Sparkle a critical look.

"How old are you, again?"

She knew. She was just rapidly running out of time to be an arsehole at the pair of them, so she was taking the chances she got.

Sparkle barely resisted the urge to throw a cushion at Sarah for that one.

"I'm not a teenager anymore," he declared. "So we're good, there."

Anyway, food waste drove him up a fucking post, so he'd probably try to avoid any risk of that, anyway.

Atton rolled his eyes at both of them. "Yeah, he's an adult now. Give him a few more years and he might actually look like one-- hey, yeah, this is Atton Rand, I'd like to place an order?"

[electrocynic]

"See?" Sarah said to Sparkle, smirking. (And overdoing the consonance, but she didn't know she did.) "Just a few more years! Then you'll be a real adult."

[myownface]

"I'm not gonna have to, like, grow a beard just to prove a point or anything, am I?"

Because he totally could. But that would be super weird.

"Don't do that," Atton said, in between ordering stuff and with an expressive hand-gesture.

[electrocynic]

Yeah, Sarah pulled a face. "Alex grew a beard one, to look more serious and rugged."

A beat.

"He just looked like a tosser."

[myownface]

"I'd mostly just be growing one in order to not look twelve," Sparkle muttered.

... It was okay, Sparkle. You didn't look that young.

[suitably_heroic]

"Then you'd look like a twelve-year-old with a weasel strapped to his face," Atton said, ending the call. "Food's on its way."

[electrocynic]

"You are a true hero, Atton," Sarah drawled. Not without some actual affection, at least if you had a finely tuned ear that could discern such things from all the sarcasm.

She sighed and shook her head. "Hope Oa has some nice arseholes too."

Potential friends. She meant potential friends.

[myownface]

"Reality is full of nice assholes," Sparkle offered, still kind of wrinkling his nose as he ran a hand over his clean-shaven chin. "Trick is luring them out. Or just throwing fuckwords around to see who reacts to them the right way."

"You could just put out a large bottle of really bad alcohol and a pack of cards," Atton said. "You know, if you're going fishing anyway. I hear they respond to that."
