This was it.

Sarah's apartment at MCA and office at the school had been emptied out. Most of her stuff was now in London under Jenny's care, waiting on how things shook out. Sarah herself had spent most of this past week in London as well, for the most part making sure her arse print was still worn into the seat in their favourite booth at The Fortress. It'd been a good time, despite Jenny's repeated fucking blubbering at how romantic this whole thing was. Alex had mostly looked confused about the whole thing, while Don had just stated he wished the sex was worth the move.

And Devlin, ever-present with his group of brown-nosers by the bar, had made some crack about her tits and space and whatever.

She'd said her goodbyes.

And then she'd set up on her journey. Which had been the bloody worst, so far. Of course there couldn't be a direct portal from London to Oa. Of course not. She'd been bounced around the multiverse, from one waiting area to the next, so many times that she'd already lost count and was ready to yell at just about anyone who gave her even the slightest bit of extra trouble. She'd worn her costume for this journey, hoping that'd make people treat her better, but nah. Same shit as she would've gotten in her civvies. Except maybe with a touch more leering, ugh.

She'd never been as glad to figure out this portal was the final one. It spat her out, and she was there. On Oa.

"Fucking finally."

God, she hoped that fucking ginger pain in her arse was actually here.

And also not dating some early-twenties waif with legs for days.

"He was awful mopey after she left." Kilowog and tact weren't exactly things used in the same sentence. "This gonna be a repeat of that?"

Sarah already liked you better, Kilowog.

Even if she rolled her eyes, again. "'S not my intention," she mumbled. Because she didn't really want to be discussing her intentions with random people, especially random friends of Guy's.

"Good. Don't need more moody Earth Lanterns."

"They're not all moody," Arisia muttered under her breath.

Yes they were.

Earth caused moodiness, it was a fact.

Just look at Sarah! Lugging her bag around and ignoring the trepidation she was feeling. "Well, I can't control him. If he gets moody, that's his bloody problem. And yours."

Just not hers. Let that be clear.

(It would very much be her problem too.)

"Heh. I like this one," Kilowog decided with a firm slap on her back to show his approval.

"It's going to be so romantic," Arisia said, floating up a little as they approached a building with a big, garish 'Warriors' sign. Yep. That was all Guy there.

Sarah muttered an indignant "-- the fook?" under her breath at getting smacked on the back and stumbling as a direct consequence.

But she forgot about that – and that whole 'romantic' bit – as soon as she saw the bar. "For fuck's sake, is that it?"

It looked terrible.

She kind of like that.

That was a normal reaction to Kilowog's... everything.

"It's pretty great, right?" Arisia asked. "Also, it's the only thing with decent food in this sector, so..."

"Who the fuck designed the sign?"

That seemed like a good thing to focus on. And not, you know, on being outside Guy Gardner's bar.

Because that way lay terrifying feelings.

"Get in there, ya poozer," Kilowog said, rolling his eyes. "Arisia's gonna burst if ya don't."

Ignore her indignant squawk.

Sarah glowered at the both of them, making a face. (And surely they could now see why Guy had been so into her!) But she didn't say anything, just turned to look at the bar. It was just a bar, she could do it. Just a bar that maybe held the key to her future happiness.

It was no different than walking into The Fortress, right?

... Wrong. Very, very wrong.

But fuck it, she squared her shoulders and did it anyway.

It was similar in maybe some ways to The Fortress, but way more alien.

And there was a very familiar red-head behind the bar who glanced up to see what fresh hell was in his bar now. And then went very still. Because. Well. "Sarah?"

You know, she realized now that in her head, this scenario had played out with him taking longer to notice her so she could keep her composure and startle him all cool-like, somehow.

But life didn't work out like that. And she froze, deer-in-headlights style.

"Bloody American wanker."

That probably settled whether it was actually her.

Please, you didn't keep a bar going here without having the situational awareness of a kindergarten teacher.

Which meant Guy was shoving a patron's glass aside to hop the bar and get to her. "What the hell--how are you--here?"

The bar was getting pretty darn quiet as the scene was playing out.

[electrocynic]

"Did you just fucking hop over the fucking bar?" Sarah asked, always ready to be vaguely combative when the alternative was actually focusing on the true situation at hand. Still, she managed a couple of steps forward. "The fuck's the matter with you?"

Asked the woman who'd traveled through goodness knows how many nausea-inducing portals just to see a guy who she hadn't seen in almost two years, just in case 'I'll always love you' somehow didn't turn out to be complete fucking bollocks.

Yeah, her indignance was clearly merited. Very clearly.

"I took portals, how d'you think I got here?"

[onepunchguy]

"It's my bar. I can hop over it all I want." Guys, pay attention to the moment. "Especially when you show up in it," he added stubbornly.

[electrocynic]

The moment seemed to be kind of an elusive thing to grasp right now.

"The fuck's that supposed to mean?"

Okay, no. She knew what it meant, she just wanted him to say it. Or to say any of the things she so desperately wanted to hear.

Guy tilted his head to the side like he was exasperated with her. "You're here."

Someone in the back of the bar went 'Awww.'

"Bar's closed!" Guy snapped, turning to the rapt audience they'd gathered.

[electrocynic]

It probably said something about him that she hadn't even noticed anyone else. Before whoever it was had to go and ruin it for everyone, that was.

"Sod off!" she added, helpfully.

When nobody moved right away, Guy made a disgruntled noise and his ring sparked a little with bright green light. "Out or you'll be permanently banned."

That got 'em moving.

It was then that he went back to just sort of staring at her.

Sarah let him. She was also looking at him pretty intently.

This was all a very surreal experience.

Then she said, "You look like I have something on my face."

[onepunchguy]

"I'm gonna kiss you," he announced, fingers twitching just to touch her and confirm this shit was real. "And then you're gonna explain what's goin' on here."

So, you know. Try not to deck him right away.

[electrocynic]

"Ugh."

That was for the prospect of explaining, not the kissing.

Which was made obvious when she stepped forward and reached out with one hand and yanked him closer for that kiss.

There was a wolf whistle from one of the people leaving before a very large green hand slammed the door shut behind them as he kissed her back. He could multi-task, but he'd really rather focus on the kissing right now.
