The Mainland, Saturday Afternoon

Considering the daemon issue, this was probably a weekend for the denizens of Fandom to stay on the island. So naturally, after some text messages, Sarah had dragged Guy out to the mainland. The seach for slutty clothes for next weekend (a separate issue entirely) trumped a little anumal problem.

Walking along, she pointed at a not particularly classy-looking store up ahead. "There, does that look like it deals in scandalously tarty necklines?"

"Looks cheap enough," said the raven perched on her shoulder. She rolled her eyes. "Weren't you supposed to shut the fuck up for the duration of this trip?"

Ahahaha as if something that was a part of her would ever do that?

Guy had what appeared to be a honey badger trailing along after him placidly. It was much quieter compared to the raven, at least.

"You get the best pets," Guy drawled. "You could always buy whatever they have a size too small if you need."

Sarah snapped her fingers and pointed one at him. "Excellent thinking," she rasped. "I might just do that for the hell of it even if their shirts already have cleavage galore."

She was so committed to her cause right now.

"Am I gonna hear why you're doin' this?"

"Isn't it obvious?"

That comment actually came from the raven. Because it refused to shut up for too long. Sarah was raising an eyebrow at Guy too, though. "I was kind of expecting you not to care about particulars like that."

Because slutty clothes, come on.

Guy shot the raven a look, shaking his head. "I know we haven't hit some kind of anniversary, so no. It's not obvious."

Too bad birds couldn't really roll their eyes. "Her parents are coming to visit."

Sarah did not look perturbed by this comment at all, walking on towards the store. Hey, to her this was a perfectly reasonable and normal reaction to her folks coming over.

"Wait, what?"

Nessna sighed, picking up the pace to keep up with them now. "Can't they do anything normal?"

"Normal is not on the menu, sweetcheeks," the raven remarked, because it just wasn't. Not with these people.

Sarah rolled her eyes, like Guy was being slow to get things. "My mum called today. They're coming in for a visit next weekend."

"So, you're buying slutty clothing." He wasn't following, Sarah.

"So I'm buying slutty clothing," Sarah agreed brightly. What, wasn't he following? "Because I left all my old ones in London."

Because she hadn't expected her parents to make the trip across the ocean.

Guy was just going to stare at her for a while. "You're crazy."

Eyebrow raised. "Based on...?"

"Guess it could be obvious to just us," Corcoran the raven hazarded. Only to add, "Or maybe he's just thick."

"Pretending to be somethin' else won't get your parents to back off," Guy said, giving the raven a glare. He was so not thick. Except for how he was.

"No but it is fucking hilarious," Sarah informed him with the confidence of someone who'd been doing this for a very long time. Closer to two decades, in fact. "Literally never gets boring."

Guy sighed, shaking his head. "I've got some friends coming in that weekend too. Hope you're willin' to meet them dressed like this too."

Sarah shrugged a shoulder, which made the raven make an indignant sound at being jostled like that.

"I'll carry a jacket with me or something." Yeah, that was going to work. Sure. "You have friends that aren't off in space?"

"Yeah, my partner was stuck back on Earth too." Then he grinned. "And someone from my old team is coming too. You'll like her."

"Her?" Sarah asked, perhaps predictably but not with any particular kind of tone. Finally approaching the automatic doors to the store and giving Corcoran a look to make sure he stayed quiet. "Mmhmm."

Actually, she just didn't like people in general all that often.

"Tora. Nicest person I know," he added helpfully. "We dated for a while."

Both before and after she died.

Well that was just par for the course for superheroes. The weirdos.

"... Your ex is coming." Well, Alex had already shown up once, so she supposed that was fair. Still, it kind of gave her pause, as much as she tried to nonchalantly play it off. "Nicest, really?"

The raven stayed quiet but tilted his head.

"Like a Disney princess," he said, watching her reaction.

She looked... dubious. That was probably the best word for it.

"That's bollocks," quoth the raven.

And they hadn't even been in the damn store for a minute.

Guy rolled his eyes, putting an arm over her shoulders. "This gonna be weirder than the way you're planning to dress for your folks?"

The raven vacated Sarah's shoulder when he did that, and relocated to the top of a rack of clothing. Sarah pretended not to notice weird looks from the staff. "No," she said, though it might not have sounded entirely convincing. "And for your information, the clothes are to piss off my dad."

Which just made it so much better, right?

"Well, that's totally different."
