MCA #5, Saturday Morning

As far as Sarah was concerned, this was a perfectly ordinary Saturday. She'd slept in late, had some brekkie, was lounging around on the couch with something mindless on the telly. And considering the way last Saturday had gone – she felt like she'd only just recuperated from the hangover, if not the mental fallout of it all – she thought this one should just stay a quiet one.

In fact, she had half a mind to just stay in her pajamas all day.

Hey, Sarah was pretty good with rage. Sometimes. Kind of.

"Don't see what this has to do with me," she noted, with some slightly milder surliness. Fidgeting with the sleeve of her pajamas.

"Well, to get that to stop, they made me focus on the good shit in my life." He shrugged uncomfortably. "You mighta featured in there pretty heavily."

"You're still a wanker," Sarah told him. Or her lap. Whichever, there wasn't much angry wind left in her sails.

Two and a half years on and they were still shit at talking about their feelings. Good to know.

"Yeah," he replied. "It's what you like about me."

She gave him a withering look for that one.

But, you know. She was actually looking at him.

"I'd give you a hug, but I don't want a black eye or broken nose."

Sarah rolled her eyes. "I'm not going to punch you." Way to act like that was completely outside what you usually did, Sarah. Well done. "Though if I did, it would be deserved."

But she wasn't going to.

"Uh huh." Guy scooted over, arms out for a hug.

Sarah made a face at him.

As she moved closer. To hug him. Because she was complicated and complex, goddammit.

Guy was in no way afraid of showing emotions via hugging. Just ask Kyle. So, his sort of latching on was to be expected.

Resting her head against the crook of his neck was perfectly accidental, okay? She didn't want to hear about it.

"Been over two years, Guy," she said, only slightly muffled.

"That you can punch me for," he promised, not letting go yet. "More than once."

Sarah wasn't exactly pulling away, either.

"Nah," she said, although that didn't mean she wasn't intending to punch him at all. "Figure I'll punch you for coming back and leaving again."

She had a handle on these things. Also her natural cynicism.

"Sounds your speed," Guy replied with a huff of laughter. "I wasn't even sure you'd still be here. Kinda glad I didn't knock on some stranger's door."

There was a vague shrug. Kind of weird and awkward mid-hug but whatever. "Thought about moving back to London some time ago."

Really, she'd considered it a great big number of times.

"There was an alien abduction, the usual bullshit."

Guy pulled back a little to make it less awkward. But that was it. Still staying close here. "You kick their asses?"

"I kicked a few in the balls. The fuckers had it coming for making me fight through them naked."

And that was why Guy and her got along. "Naked?"

"Naked." She looked annoyed just thinking about it. "We were taken and hooked into some Matrix-type bollocks. When we broke out into the real world, we were naked on a spaceship."

"...kinda glad I missed out on that one," Guy admitted slowly. "Not that the view woulda been bad."

Sarah hit him.

Okay, it was a thwap on the shoulder.

"Not funny."

Guy shrugged, completely unrepentant. "You still at the school?"

"Still at the school, still counseling brats who don't want to be counseled," she replied with another shrug. "I do the occasional heroic thing on the mainland, too."

"I'm sure the heroing is more satisfying since you can hit 'em."

Shrug. "A little. Doesn't pay very well, though. People don't appreciate a good superhero 'round here."

Or she was so unknown that she might as well not have done anything at all. One of those.
